T-shirt Quilt Finish on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 461 of Free Motion Mavericks. I delivered the quilt to my nephew last night at 10:30 so that he could pack it up to bring to Denmark. He lives down the street so it wasn't a long journey. He and his roommate are tall men, so they helped me take a few quick pictures of the quilt. Thanks guys!

Quilted Plates of Food from Goer

About a year ago I participated in the I Spy book release blog hop by making these two quilt blocks from the book. Each is a paper pieced block in which I chose to use solid fabrics.

It is season 13 of Project QUILTING and as much as I love to participate, I really have been focusing on finishing works in progress. I'd convinced myself that instead of participating in this season's one week quilt challenges by conceiving, starting, and completing a quilt in a week (for each of the six challenges) I would choose a WIP from ...

Improv Abstraction from Goer

Four years ago this week, I took an improv piecing workshop with Karen Foster of Capitola Quilter. She taught Improv Abstraction, using two methods of improv curves, for the workshop with Bay Area Modern. In my #99DaysofWIPs this summer I focused on projects that had been started in quilt workshops such as this one.

I used the remaining solids in these two colors, Kona Pewter and Nautical, to fill in and add to the blocks I'd created in the workshop.

I added smooth curve walking foot quilting, inspired by my recent walking foot class with Jacquie Gering. I started ...

Double Magic Binding from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Every so often I will repost a tutorial. I always think it's good to revisit items that are basic to quilting for those who may have never seen them before. I've been wanting to do some tutorials on binding quilts so I thought it would be in order to revisit my favorite way to bind a quilt. It's what I call my Double Magic Binding. I discovered the technique a many years ago, it's a fun way to bind a quilt.  I can't take credit for coming up with the idea, there are several tutorials ...

traffic jam binding from Making A Lather

Yesterday, I posted my traffic jam finish. Today, I want to share a bit about a new experiment in machine binding I have been doing. One of the presenters at a guild presentation, this fall, mentioned, that, he used steam a seam when attaching his binding. I was intrigued and went to Joann fabrics that night to find what he used.

This is what I chose using a coupon. It was 2.39. I had decided that if that was too expensive, I might use the BYT and cut it myself. The package came with 2 rolls.

I tried it ...

My Approach to Quilting A Modern Quilt from Carol Lyles Shaw

I love  the look of machine quilting on modern quilts.   I wanted to use my walking foot but still go beyond simple or even complex lines to create unique quilting lines and shapes in my modern quilts.  I wanted to break away from repeating the same shapes over and over.  I did not want to …

Fancy Little Mug Rugs from Solid Stars from Amy Made That

Hello, Friends!
I have a fun little gift project to share today!

I made three little mug rugs, using
some 6 1/2" star blocks that I made
a short long time ago.

{Ahem...time flies.}

You can read more about the Moda Sweetwater solid bundle
of fabrics that I used, in this post.

I had such fun stitching up these solid blocks!
I used one of them on the back of a little table runner,

Hmmm...solid blocks do tend to show "mistakes",
don't they?
I'm pretty sure I've ...
